A few things worth knowing before you start — this helps you get a clean download every time and understand what's happening behind the scenes.
When you paste a link, SaveClips reads the page exactly the way your browser would if you visited it — it doesn't log into TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook on your behalf, and it never asks for your password. It simply requests the publicly visible video file that the platform itself is already serving to anyone who opens that link, then hands you a direct copy of that file. Nothing is re-encoded or recompressed unless the source platform applies its own compression first, so the quality you get is the quality that platform originally published.
SaveClips can only retrieve videos from posts, profiles, or pages that are set to public. If an Instagram account is private, a TikTok video belongs to a friends-only profile, or a Facebook post is restricted to a specific audience, no downloader — including this one — can bypass that. This isn't a limitation we've added; it's a deliberate restriction built by the platforms themselves to protect users who've chosen not to share their content publicly. If a download fails immediately with no result, checking whether the account is public is usually the first thing to verify.
Beyond privacy settings, a handful of other things can cause a failed download: the link was copied incomplete (missing characters from the end of a long URL), the original post was deleted or taken down after you copied the link, the platform temporarily rate-limits requests from a shared IP address during high traffic, or — in rare cases — the platform has changed something on its end that takes us a short time to adapt to. If a link fails, the fastest fix is usually to re-copy it fresh from the share button in the app rather than from a browser tab that's been open a while.

The one thing that does vary by device is where the downloaded file ends up: iOS saves to the Files app first (you then move it into Photos), Android saves straight to your Downloads folder, and desktop browsers use whatever download location you've configured.
